The Programs to get!!!
To get the most out of your adventures into cyber-space
I have assembled this list of programs to download and install. Most
of them are "shareware". This means you can use them for a certain
amount of time and if you decide you like them you should buy them. Some
have nags to let you know that they are just trial versions and some self
destruct (not really) or just disable themselves. Alot of times if
you are not done reviewing them you can just uninstall them and install
them again and they will work fine till the trial period is up again.
PKunzip and PK Zip:
The standard Program for file
de-compression and compression. Most programs (games and utilities)
available for dowload are in "ziped" form. This program allows you to "unzip"
them so you can install them. It also allows you to "zip" up files
or whole directories to save space on your hard drive!

Rules I Follow:

I always keep my antivirus definitions current. At
least every 2 months I get the new ones. Both Norton and Mcafee.

I never download anything in E-Mail without checking
it for viruses. Even if it is from a friend. If it is not from someone
I know then I delete it. No one sends anything of value that you can't
get yourself from a reputable source.

I only download from the web site owned and operated
by the company I want to get the program from. There are exceptions
to this rule: There are great download sites out there i.e. Download.com
, Filez.com and others,
and alot of companies send you to get their files there.

I virus check everything. I have made
it a habit. You can check each file as you get it and it only takes
a minute. Even the best companies can hire a disreputable person.
